Message from the Architectural Review Committee
In a Buyer's Market, inventory of homes are up and prices are down.
That market affects every neighborhood, whether you live in a $250,000
priced home or one like ours in a gated, golf course community. While
your home may be the pristine example of "house beautiful," the
appearance of your neighbor's home affects your home too! In order
to live in an executive neighborhood and obtain the prices (and equity)
that we want from our homes, certain efforts need to be made to keep
The Fairways a sought-after community. Here are just some examples of
how we can make our neighborhood look its best:
1. Dispose of lawn service signs in your front yard (especially after a few days!)
2. Bring in your garbage can the day of garbage pickup ~ Don't leave the recycle bin in your yard for a week! Package your garbage so the can is not overloaded. Obtain 2 cans from the City if you need them. Windy days always fall on Monday and loose newspaper & trash blow down the street and in neighbor's yards when not property contained.
3. If you're going out-of-town, stop your newspaper. Who wants to look at several newspapers in your driveway. Newspapers alert prospective thefts that you're not home. Why not donate your newspapers to the Commercial Appeal Literacy Council while you're away?
4. Put grass clippings, shrub & tree limbs out on Sunday evening, not 5 days before pick-up.
5. Does your home need painting? While shutters & trim get attention, some homes need their brick re-painted.
6. Does your mailbox need painting? It is missing numbers or the red flag?
7. If the street gutter in front of your home is clogged with leaves, dirt or trash, clear it so there is proper street drainage.
8. Replace dead trees & shrubs in your yard.
Reminders for Homeowners
As you are walking your dogs, please clean up after them on the lawns and the streets.
Please keep your grass clippings swept up and off the streets.
If your children are using large toys in your front yard, such as soccer nets and basketball hoops, please put them away when they are done. This helps with the appearance of our neighborhood.
Thank You!
Speeding in the Neighborhood
This has been an area of concern in our neighborhood. This
issue was raised at the annual meeting in September. Some of the
possible solutions include: installing speed bumps, putting in stop
signs at different locations to slow people down, sending reminders
out to residents, having the reminder placed in the golf course
newsletter, finding out what other neighborhoods are doing with
this problem, reporting school buses when they are seen speeding,
and using speed signs that electronically tell the driver how fast
they are going.
The Fairways Board has voted not to install speed bumps or additional
speed limit or stop signs. They will continue to ask all of you to
please be conscious of your driving speed through the neighborhood
and to remind your children of driving age and your guests as well.
A math calculation has been figured determining that you will only save 45 seconds by driving 30 mph versus the speed limit of 19 mph when you start from the furthest point of the neighborhood and drive to the entrance. Is a 45 second savings worth the risk to our families and pets?
